Generally people do not know that yeast infection, also known as Candiiasis, Candida infection, Monilia or thrush is brought about by microscopic Candida bacteria or yeast.
Hardly any people appreciate that Candida bacteria in fact live in our intestines and all over the outside of our bodies, but chiefly in the intestines, mouth and throat.
In a ordinary healthy individual there can be millions of Candida bacteria. They are usually kept under control by healthy pro-biotic bacteria, such as that found in yoghurts and yoghurt drinks, etc.
The Candida bacteria carry out a worthwhile function in our intestines and our bodies need the Candida bacteria to kill harmful bacteria and keep them under control.
In average healthy persons the pro-biotic bacteria keep a healthy equilibrium so that there are no undesirable effects.
Unfortunately antibiotics can kill not only harmful bacteria but our friendly bacteria as well and decrease the amount in our intestines. This can frequently mean that there is not an adequate amount of friendly bacteria to maintain the Candida bacteria in check.
Incorrect diet, incorrect pH balance or difficulties with our immune system could also trigger Candida to grow out of control.
Once our normal internal balance is lost and the Candida are able to reproduce out of control they alter from a yeast form to a fungal kind that can invade the whole body.
When this happens the fungal form of Candida creates roots that can penetrate the walls of the intestines. The yeast, bacteria and partially digested food could then get into the bloodstream triggering itching, rashes, irritations and other symptoms.
The most regularly recognized symptoms are skin rash, thrush, vaginal infections and nail-bed infections. Candida yeast like to breed externally in humid moist areas of the body.
Infections in the mouth may become more common as we grow older as well as infections underneath skin folds, underneath the breasts and around dentures.
There is a widespread belief that yeast infection merely takes place on the surface of the skin and can be treated easily by way of creams and over-the-counter prescription.
Sadly, as indicated above, the position is frequently not that straight forward. Wherever the infections are unshakable and persist in coming back this might be the sign of a more severe internal difficulty.
We need to realise, however, that by the time these external conditions may be seen the Candida could well be by now out of control internally.
Given that the condition could be brought on by a mixture of numerous factors. Doctors might have trouble controlling it with drugs and over the counter prescriptions.
Nearly all sufferers still, sadly, leave cure in the hands of the over the counter industry and their Doctors. Not many of us take responsibility for our own health and well-being and do our own research to discover a permanent cure for this nasty condition.
