Paint is used for just about every purpose. You can use it to add color to just about everything; the trick is to get the right paint for your needs.

House paint can be problematic. You have a variety to choose from: glossy, semi-glossy, flat and latex. Before you buy any you should do a bit of research and make sure you know what you need. If it is for the out side of your house them you will need something that won't peel because of rain. Anyone at a supply store can help you make this determination.

To help you get the exact color you want, they usually have color charts for you to use. This will allow you to pick out what you want and tell them exactly what they need to do in order to get that specific color. You can also get paint at a discount if you are willing to buy some that was mixed the wrong color for someone else.

Supplies for painting you house can usually be bought in the same store as the paint itself. Supplies you may need, depending on the project, include rollers, brushes, sprayer, tarps, masking tape, and a pan for the paint to go in for easy access.

For projects like painting decks, porches, or furniture you might want to go with a varnish. This brings out the natural colors in the wood and adds color to them. This keeps the natural wood look and doesn't just cover it up. Varnishes are made especially for wood.

For projects involving metal spray paint may be the best thing for the job. This comes in cans and in set colors. These are usually your more basic colors but this can help protect against rust. This is good for flower pots and touching up swing sets and other things used in your yard. Plus this is very cheap, usually not more than a couple of dollars per can.

For much smaller or detailed projects you may need to go with paint designed for arts and crafts. There are a limited number of colors available in this type of paint and it usually comes in acrylic, oil based, or water based. What you will be using the paint for will determine what type you need.

This is a little more complex because you will have to mix the paint yourself if you want a color other than what is sold. If you need to mix the colors to get what you want then you may have to use trail and error; you should also consider investing in a pallet designed for mixing the paint on. They have many different types of brushes for this that you can use for different effects. Some are intended for thinner or wider brush strokes and some for special effects.

You can easily add a splash of color to any project with a little paint. Weather you are going for bright and cheerful or a more subdued effect, they have something for everyone.
